Aside from popular leaf Cosplaying is not just simply wearing a costume. Cosplaying is much more of living that character, encompassing their personality and becoming them. When getting into cosplay the one thing that everyone should remember is to dont worry about starting big. If you go to convention you will see people in amazing extravagant meca costumes but if you just started getting into cosplay or anime in general it is always best to start small.

To start your cosplay you first need to decide what you want to cosplay, many times this just means choosing your favorite character from an anime. School uniforms are often a good first cosplay from animes such as Vampire Knight or Clannad. If you want to go very simple slice of life animes or animes where the characters where minimalist clothing such as L from Death Note are also good options. What to keep in mind though is look for characters that fit you. This doesn’t mean a girl cant cosplay a guy but this means look at body types, look at traits, find a character that fits you just as much as you need to fit them.

The second choice that must be made is weather you want to make or buy your costume. Its always good to assess the difficultly of your costume before you make this decision. If you have a very complicated pattern or a lot of layers to your cloths and dont have a lot of experience with sewing it is probably best you buy your costume though if you want a challenge making one is always a good option.

After that all you really need to do is get the costume. Finishing pieces could be a wig or a few accessories, contacts if your character has strange defining eyes, any little thing you need to round out the look. Though after the look is done its time for the personality. The fun part of cosplaying is becoming that character. Make sure to learn any special lines they might say always such as “Kowaii” as well as any special movements they may do.

Once you can get the look and personally down your cosplay is ready and you’re ready to go out and show your stuff!
